You spotted it in a photograph, and now the crowding in your lower front teeth is the first thing you look for in every photo since. Straightening them means choosing between fixed braces and clear aligners. What decides it is how far the teeth have to travel, and whether a removable appliance would realistically stay in your mouth. Prime Smile Dental Clinic fits both from one clinic inside Casey Medical Centre in Clyde, where Jonemson Perez opened the practice in 2023, and Lyndhurst falls inside the Casey region of Melbourne's south-east that the practice covers. Which appliance suits your case is settled by what an examination and the X-rays show, and the dentist talks you through the reasoning before you decide.

Wire on the Teeth, or Trays You Take Out
Braces are brackets bonded to each tooth with a wire threaded between them. The wire pulls in the direction it was bent to pull, every hour of every day, with no input from you. That is why braces remain the more predictable tool when teeth have a long way to go, when several teeth need rotating, or when the bite itself is being corrected rather than just the front six.
Clear aligners are a series of transparent trays, each one made to fit your teeth at a particular stage and worn until the next takes over. They lift out for meals and for brushing. Most people you talk to will not notice them. The whole appeal and the whole risk come from one feature: they only move teeth while they are in.
Worth answering honestly before you pick one:
- How far the teeth genuinely have to move. Mild crowding and small gaps land comfortably in aligner territory. Bigger rotations and bite work point towards a wire.
- Whether the trays would stay in. They do nothing at all from a pocket or a bedside drawer.
- What your week looks like. Braces ask no discipline of you at all. Aligners ask for it constantly, including through busy weeks, holidays and illness.
- Whether being seen in them matters. For a lot of adults, that is the entire reason they are asking.
- How you feel about the food list. Braces rule out the hard and the sticky until the day they come off. Aligners come out at the table.
Both treatments are explained further on our braces and clear aligners page.
Preferred Providers
Why the Price Is Set After the Examination, Not Before
Straightening is priced case by case, because no two mouths need the same amount of work. What moves the number is how far the teeth have to travel, which appliance does the moving, how long treatment is expected to run, and whether anything else needs treating first. A figure given before anyone has looked in your mouth is not really an answer. Contact us for current pricing, and expect it to arrive attached to a plan, so you can weigh what you are paying against what you are getting.
The pathways patients use to cover it:
- Private health cover. The practice is a preferred provider with health funds. What comes back depends on your level of cover and how much of your annual limit is left, so have your card with you at the assessment.
- Afterpay and Zip, both accepted here, which turn one bill into scheduled instalments.
- Payment plans arranged through the finance companies the practice partners with.
- Early release of superannuation, which some patients apply for towards major dental work. The application takes time, so raise it in the first conversation rather than the last.
- Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule, for eligible children up to 17, covering a set list of general dental services. Ask us to check what your child’s entitlement actually reaches before you plan around it.
What the Examination Settles Before Any Appliance Goes On
Teeth move through bone, so the first appointment is less about the crooked tooth you came in about and more about what surrounds it. The dentist looks at gum health, the level of bone holding your teeth, and any decay that should be dealt with before an appliance goes anywhere near it. X-rays and a full assessment fill in what looking cannot show.
Sometimes that means treating something else first, from a filling to dentures in Lyndhurst where teeth are already missing, and starting straightening a little later. That is a much better thing to hear at an assessment than three months into a plan.
This is also where you find out if aligners are wrong for you, and there are only two honest reasons for that answer. Either the movement your case needs is better controlled by a fixed wire, or your days make wearing trays for most of the day and night unlikely. Neither is a judgement about you, and both should be said out loud rather than implied.
The Approach at Prime Smile Dental Clinic, and Who Reviews Your Progress
Jonemson Perez opened Prime Smile Dental Clinic in 2023, and it has run as a general dental practice ever since, with straightening done alongside the check-ups, fillings, X-rays and children’s appointments the same team already handles as your dentist in Lyndhurst. On treatment that runs for months, that has a practical effect. Your records and your images stay in one place, and the same team sorts a chipped edge or a filling that gives way partway through instead of it becoming somebody else’s problem.
Braces need adjusting and aligners need progress checks, so you are seen in person right through treatment, and the plan is measured against what your teeth have actually done rather than what the schedule assumed. If the chair itself is the hard part, sedation is available here: Dr Jeff Field, an anaesthetist, is part of the team.
Who works at the practice, and what each of them trained in, is set out on the about page.

If Your Child’s Teeth Are Coming Through Crooked
Alongside braces and aligners, the practice uses myofunctional appliances. These are removable, and they work on the habits and muscle patterns around growing teeth rather than pushing on the teeth alone. That makes them a fit for children whose jaws are still developing, where the aim is to guide growth while it is still happening instead of correcting the outcome years later.
Children are not simply small adults in this. A jaw that is still growing gives a dentist something to work with that an adult jaw no longer offers, and the window for it does not stay open indefinitely. If a parent has noticed adult teeth coming through crowded or twisted, or a habit like thumb sucking or mouth breathing that has not stopped, mention it when you book rather than waiting for a routine check-up to raise it.
What Happens After the Appliance Comes Off
Teeth are not fixed in place once they arrive where you wanted them. They keep a tendency to creep back towards where they spent years sitting, particularly in the first stretch after treatment ends, which is why retention is part of any straightening plan rather than an afterthought bolted on at the end.
Ask what retention your plan involves while you are still deciding between the two paths, not on the day the brackets come off. It changes what you are committing to, and it is a fair question to put to anyone quoting you for treatment.
Visits, Weekends and the Trip In from Lyndhurst
Straightening is never a single appointment. Braces need periodic adjustments and aligners need checks as you work through the series, so you will be back in the chair a number of times before it is finished. Better to know that before you start than to discover it against a work roster.
The clinic is open seven days: weekdays 9am to 6pm, Saturdays 8am to 6pm and Sundays 9am to 3pm. Those weekend and late-afternoon slots are what keep most adjustment visits from costing a day of work or a day of school. Lyndhurst is part of the Casey region of south-eastern Victoria, as are Hampton Park and Cranbourne, and patients travel into the Clyde clinic from right across that part of the state, including the patients we see for clear aligners and braces in Lynbrook.
Putting a Plan in Front of You
Nothing about this has to be decided today. The examination is the only part that has to come first, and the appliance, the timeline and the cost all follow from what it finds.
Ask for a straightening assessment when you get in touch, either through the booking form on this site or on (03) 592 922 53 and 0477 138 908.

Aligner and Braces Questions We Hear Most
Can you tell me what it will cost before I come in?
Not honestly, no. The price follows the plan, and the plan follows an examination and X-rays that show how far your teeth need to move. Contact us for current pricing, and the quote comes to you with the treatment plan attached so you can take both away and think about them.
Does Medicare pay for any of this?
Not for adults. For eligible children up to 17, Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule covers a set list of general dental services, and we will check what your child’s entitlement covers before anything is planned around it.
Are clear aligners ever the wrong choice?
Yes, in two situations. Where the movement needed is complex, a fixed wire gives the dentist more control over it. And where trays would spend their days in a case rather than in your mouth, braces take that decision away from you. If either one applies to you, you should hear it plainly at the assessment.
What goes wrong when aligner treatment stalls?
Wear time, nearly every time. A tray that is out for hours a day stops keeping pace with the plan, the teeth drift, and the next tray in the series no longer seats properly. Hardly anyone decides to quit; it just gradually stops working. Say so at your next visit instead of skipping it, and the plan can be reworked around where your teeth actually are.
Am I too old to start?
There is no age at which teeth stop being able to move. Plenty of adults come in years after they first thought about it, often because a lower front tooth has drifted or a crowded upper arch has become genuinely hard to keep clean. Healthy gums and sound bone matter far more here than how old you are.
We both work, and our child is at school. When can appointments actually happen?
The clinic runs seven days, including Saturday through to 6pm and Sunday mornings and early afternoons, which is when most families book the visits that would otherwise cost somebody a day. Tell us what your week looks like when you book and we build the schedule around it.
