Ordinary dentistry is quiet work. A dentist looks properly, cleans off what a toothbrush cannot shift, and tells you plainly whether anything needs doing before it starts to hurt. Prime Smile Dental Clinic has been running that appointment from a clinic inside Casey Medical Centre in Clyde since 2023, and Harkaway sits inside the part of Melbourne's south-east it serves. A first visit is an examination, X-rays where there is reason for them, and a clear account of what is going on. Ring (03) 592 922 53 or book online, and say what prompted the call so we set aside the right amount of chair time.

What a Check-Up and Clean Actually Covers
The appointment has two halves. The first is the examination, which covers every tooth, the gums around them, and the fillings, crowns and bridges already in your mouth, because old dental work tends to fail long before it hurts. The second is the clean, which lifts the hardened build-up that brushing and flossing leave behind in the spots a brush has never properly reached.
Then your dentist explains the findings in plain language. What is fine, what is worth watching and what needs attention now are three different answers.

Who Runs Prime Smile Dental Clinic, and What It Covers
Jonemson Perez opened Prime Smile Dental Clinic in 2023 to give the surrounding suburbs a general practice they could treat as their regular one. The dentists you might see are Dr Mary Roneth Perez, Dr Lakshmi Pavan, Dr Afreen Nikhath, Dr Simi Dhaliwal and Dr Gurleen Sekhon, each holding a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Australian Dental Council registration. Full profiles sit on the About page.
It is a general dental clinic serving Harkaway and other Victorian suburbs across Melbourne’s south-east, and the same practice is the dentist in Beaconsfield patients there book. The work covers:
- Check-ups and cleans, in-depth examinations, X-rays and diagnostics
- Fillings, and root canal treatment where decay has reached the nerve
- Teeth extraction, including wisdom teeth
- Crowns and bridges, dental implants, and full and partial dentures
- Braces, clear aligners and myofunctional appliances
- Teeth whitening, veneers and other cosmetic dentistry
- Paediatric dentistry, starting with a child’s first visit
- Preventive and restorative dentistry, and same-day emergency treatment
Both dentures and clear aligners and braces in Harkaway take more explaining than a general page can give them, and each begins with the same examination.
What an X-Ray Finds Before You Feel It
The dentist takes X-rays where the examination gives a reason to take them. What they show is the part of a mouth no mirror reaches: decay starting between two teeth where the surfaces touch, or tracking underneath an existing filling. They also show the bone level around the roots where gum disease has been at work, infection at the tip of a root, and where a wisdom tooth is sitting before it causes trouble.
Early on, none of it announces itself. A tooth can be well into difficulty before it produces a single ache.
How Often You Need to Come Back
No single interval suits everyone. Someone with healthy gums, no decay history and no large restorations can reasonably go longer between visits than someone whose last two check-ups both turned something up. Your interval comes out of what the examination found, and we agree with you rather than issue it at you.
It matters because dental problems only travel one way. Decay caught early is a small filling in one visit. The same decay two years on can be root canal treatment and a crown, and by then the tooth has made itself heard.
Getting Seen When Something Goes Wrong
Say up front what has happened, whether that is pain keeping you awake, a tooth that has broken, a filling that has come out or a crown that has come loose. The clinic provides same-day emergency dental services, and we schedule an urgent appointment differently from a routine one.
The clinic is open every day of the week:
- Monday to Friday: 9am to 6pm
- Saturday: 8am to 6pm
- Sunday: 9am to 3pm
Book online at any hour, ring (03) 592 922 53 or 0477 138 908 inside those hours, or email info@primesmiledentalclinic.com.au.

Our experienced team is here to attend to your dental concerns and questions.
When the Appointment Itself Is the Hard Part
Fear of the chair is one of the most common reasons people put a visit off, and putting it off is what turns a small filling into a long appointment. Name it at the booking, and we plan the appointment around it.
Sedation is available for patients whose nerves do not settle on reassurance alone. Dr Jeff Field, an anaesthetist, is part of the team and supports sedation and more complex procedures. The rooms were purpose-designed to be bright and welcoming.
Children get the unhurried version as a matter of course. Paediatric dentistry here is deliberately low-key, because a first visit that goes badly is remembered for years.
The Cost Is Worked Out Before the Treatment Starts
What treatment costs depends on what the examination finds, so an honest price answer over the phone needs a look first. The order does not change: examine, explain, quote, treat.
The ways patients cover it:
- Private health insurance. The clinic holds preferred provider arrangements with health funds, so bring your card and your level of cover decides what is left to pay.
- Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule, for eligible children up to 17.
- Afterpay and Zip, which spread payment across instalments.
- Payment plans through partner finance providers, for treatment running beyond one visit.
- Early release of superannuation, which some patients use for major work. It takes time to arrange, so raise it early.
- Cash and card for everything else.
Ask at the booking which of these fits you. The number is settled before anyone picks up an instrument.
Booking a Check-Up and Clean
If nobody has looked properly in a while, the examination is the appointment to make first, and it is the one that keeps the bigger ones off the table. Book online at any hour, or ring (03) 592 922 53 or 0477 138 908 while the clinic is open.

Cleans, Cover and the Questions Patients Ask
Are dental cleans covered by Medicare?
Dental cleans are not covered by Medicare for adults, and neither are routine examinations. The exception is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which covers a set list of services for eligible children up to 17. For adults, the routes left are private health cover, where a check-up and clean with a preferred provider attracts a benefit, or one of the payment routes above.
What is the 2 year rule for dentists?
No two year rule sets how often an adult should see a dentist in Australia. The two year cycle that does affect families is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, whose entitlement for eligible children up to 17 runs across two calendar years. Mention it when you book and we will work through what it covers.
How can I fix my teeth if I don't have money in Australia?
Treatment can be worked through in an order rather than all at once. Say at the assessment that cost is the constraint, and your dentist discusses the options with that in the room. The funding routes are health fund cover, Afterpay or Zip instalments, a payment plan through a partner provider, superannuation released early, and the Child Dental Benefits Schedule for an eligible child.
Can bad teeth be fixed?
Bad teeth are worth showing a dentist before you write them off, because what can be improved runs further than people expect after years away from the chair. Fillings, root canal treatment, crowns and bridges, implants and dentures in Harkaway all exist for teeth that are broken, badly decayed or already gone. The first appointment settles what is salvageable and what is not, which is a shorter list of bad news than most people brace for.
